Prada Marfa

HEY DOLLS!

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHAT THE "PRADA MARFA" PAINTING SYMBOLIZES ON THE WALL OF THE VAN DER WOODSEN'S UPPER EAST SIDE PENTHOUSE ON GOSSIP GIRL?

No, Marfa is not a fancy Italian word you do not know. It is actually a tiny town in Texas. And no, Prada does not have a retail store there.

In 2005,  Scandanvain artists Elmgreen & Dragset unveiled Prada Marfa, a 15' x 25' sculptural doppelganger of a Prada boutique near Marfa, Texas, complete with lighting and merchandise, but sealed shut: a time capsule of Luxury retail

The ecofriendly sculpture cost $80,000 to construct, and was intended to never be repaired so it may slowly degrade back into the natural landscape.
